The first project for this team was to design a new site lighting system for a
Nashville, Tennessee location. The client desired the maximum operational
cost savings while utilizing LED technology and redesigning the system to
their current needs. The design focused on safety and security for the
occupants while meeting all Illuminating Engineering Society’s (IES) design
criteria along with Design Lights Consortium Standards and local energy
codes to ensure compliance. The new design utilized products from Lithonia
and Accendo lighting and maximized all available utility rebates.
Measurement and Verification standards were utilized to compare the
existing and new systems performance. The existing light levels in the
parking lots were raised slightly as compared to the existing metal halide
lighting system. However with the much improved light distribution with
the LED luminaires, the visual perception of the area is greatly improved.
Wattage readings were also taken on the existing and newly installed systems
that verified 76% energy savings in the parking areas.
The connected load for the first phase project was reduced from 113 kW
down to a frugal 47kW. Additionally, kWh usage was reduced from 578,803
to 374,169. Theese energy savings alone resulted in an annual cost savings for
the client in excess of $37,000 annually. The entire phase one project along
with a substantial utility rebate resulted in a 35% ROI for the client.
The Stones River Electric and Graybar Power Smart Team have already began
the next project with Asurion to install a new interior LED system.
